With the advent of the internet and its numerous communicative functions, best exemplified through Synchronous Computer mediated communication tools (hereafter SCMC), many learning and teaching applications are in EFL and SLA contexts. In this study, negotiation of meaning will be analyzed in view of pedagogical perspectives for RFL classroom. It is suggested that SCMC offers genuine opportunities for meaning and modify their output when engaged in discussions that learners can gain a great deal in enhancing their interactional and communicative skills when collaborating and attempting to construct meaning together. For that, negotiation of meaning through SCMC seems to present many potential benefits for contemporary education that sees learning as discursive, constructivist and situated. The work presented here is built upon a quantitative and a qualitative quasi-experimental research done at the University of Tlemcen, at the department of foreign languages, section of English. The research covers three chapters: literature review, research methodology and data analysis and interpretation. The first chapter consists in reviewing from a theoretical point of view the state-of-the art of interaction in both face-to-face and internet-based environment in terms of input, output and negotiation of meaning and their implication to learning. The second chapter aims at presenting the research methodology in terms of data collection procedure in both the pre-study phase and the study phase of our investigation. The third chapter focuses on the analysis and interpretation of result obtained in the two phases. At first hand, the analysis will concern the observation session, the questionnaire and the interviews that make up the corner stone’s of our work. At second hand, the SCMC transcripts will be analyzed using long’s (1980) definition of negotiation of meaning and modified output.
